Sarah Palin Criticizes Fox News, Says The Culture “Has to Change”

Fox News isn’t having a good week. Following the channel’s decision to fire Bill O’Reilly after his sexual harassment scandal, many people have started speaking up against the news channel. Fox’s latest critic? Former governor of Alaska, former Fox News contributor, and former reality show star Sarah Palin.

In an interview on CNN’s The Lead with Jake Tapper, Tapper asked Palin about the state of her former employer. Palin criticized Fox’s culture in no uncertain terms. “The corporate culture there obviously has to change,” she said. “Women don’t deserve, should not ever have to put up with any kind of intimidating workplace.”

However, Palin also credited the women working in these environments as being at least partially responsible for how the company treats them. “At the same time, if a woman believes she is being intimidated and harassed, she needs to stand up and do something about it and not stick around for a paycheck for years and, after that, complain about what she went through,” Palin said.

Later in the interview, Tapper asked Palin about her reasons for leaving Fox, which is when things took a turn for the personal. When asked why she left, Palin said, “You can ask them why I’m no longer at Fox. You know, I’m not going to speak for them. My contract wasn’t renewed, that’s the line.” She then elaborated a bit on her relationship with the company. “I just, you know, it was just time to part ways and get out there in, you know, I guess a more diverse arena to express views and speak for the public, and that’s what I’ve been able to do now.”

Palin used to be a Fox News contributor until 2015. What exactly caused Palin and the news company to part ways has never been completely addressed by either party. However, between the scandals and subsequent departures of Roger Ailes and Bill O’Reilly, the truth behind Palin’s departure is likely the least of Fox’s concerns.
