Woman Crush Wednesday: ‘Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt’ Star Dylan Gelula Makes The Angsty Teen Fun Again

Where to Stream

Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt

Whether it feels like “already” or “only” Wednesday to you, it’s still Wednesday, which is reason to throw a party for gal we love.

Season 3 of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt hits Netflix this Friday but we can’t contain our excitement for this week’s Woman Crush Wednesday, Dylan Gelula.

As Xanthippe Voorhees, or Xan, Dylan has once again made the angsty teen cool — and also very, very funny. She brings an extra dose of snark and sarcasm to Xan that will be in full effect for the new season and we are hashbrown ready for it.

WHO’S THAT GAL: Dylan Gelula

WHY WE’RE CRUSHING: In the new season of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Xan heads off to college — but that doesn’t mean she’ll escape Kimmy (Ellie Kemper). While she’s there, her character will continue to grow, which does tend to happen to most young people when they go to college. She’ll learn what is really cool — and what isn’t — all while rolling her eyes at a record rate.

We got a double dose of Dylan’s angsty teen capabilities in season 2 of Hulu’s Casual last year, where she was part of one of the more unexpected teen threesomes we’ve ever seen coming. That role allowed her to show a bit more of her softer, vulnerable and emotional side while still bringing a mischievous nature to the screen.

And that’s not the only screen she’s thriving on. Her Twitter account is even more hilarious than the lines she drops on Kimmy, if that’s even possible. We love that she’s a young actress that isn’t afraid to express a pure honest and hilarious point of view on her social media. She doesn’t say what we’re all thinking — she says things that are straight up funnier than anything we could think up.

WHERE YOU’VE SEEN HER BEFORE: Dylan first made a splash in the 2014 TV Land comedy Jennifer Falls with Jaime Pressly and the drama show Chasing Life with Italia Richie. From there, she landed on Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and Casual, where she played a pal (and more than a pal) to Tara Lynne Barr’s Laura. Dylan starred in the 2016 film First Girl I Loved as a teen who wrestles with her crush on a girl, and acted opposite the likes of Cameron Esposito, Pamela Adlon and Tim Heidecker. She can also be seen in this year’s indie film Flower with Zoey Deutch which recently made a big impression at the Tribeca Film Festival.

WHERE YOU’LL SEE HER AGAIN: She’s signed on for the film Support the Girls, which is due out in 2018 and also stars Regina Hall and Brooklyn Decker, but clear your calendar for this weekend: you can (and should) watch Dylan in season 3 of Kimmy which is delightful whether you’re watching it from your bed or a bunker.
