‘Shahs Of Sunset’ Star Reza Farahan On Reuniting With GG For Season 6: “This Slick-Ass Bitch Found My Kryptonite”

Where to Stream

Shahs of Sunset

“Did you get a good glimpse of my ass?” Reza Farahan asked as soon as we jumped on the phone to discuss the sixth season of Shahs of SunsetThe answer was a yes for me, and will be for you too after you watch tonight’s premiere on Bravo (8/7c).

After last’s season’s explosive reunion, we got his thoughts on how he regrouped and got ready for the new season, which includes a LOT of baby talk, due to Asa’s pregnancy. Reza also reveals why he felt “mortified” watching himself play tennis on-screen, and the fitness plan he’s been sticking to since Christmas. Oh, and if you’re wondering if his mustache will be making a return anytime soon, we got his thoughts on that too.

In tonight’s episode we see you and MJ visit the salon and got treated to a whole new side of you: were you prepared for us to see that much of you?

When I’m in the zone, I’m not thinking about,  oh, there’s a camera here, there’s a camera there — you’re just living your life. It’s been six years of it. So I was just in the room and I was more alarmed that there was a lady all up in my caboose, that I forgot there are cameras here and this is going to be on television later. I was too worried about the sensation of the hot wax pulling out my thick, angry, Persian hairs and how much it hurt.

Have you gone back for more bleaching or waxing since?

My ethnic origin is Middle Eastern, and when you have hair all over your butt, it’s really not a cute look to have hair on the left cheek and on the right cheek, and then just have a weird line down the center that’s hairless. Especially since that area started to get very moist because there was no hairs there and the bleach stings. So it was a very unpleasant, moist, stinging sensation. Really there was no question that would be the one and only time that would happen.

How about your husband Adam, did he enjoy it?

I mean, Adam doesn’t really go down there. If Adam had done it, it would be one thing. Also, he’s white, he doesn’t have hair on his ass.

Have we been going mustache-less lately? It appears so on your Instagram.

We are stacheless. I am sans mustache and I am enjoying it. I don’t know if it’s going to stay this way, but it definitely is right now. I’ve been on this super diet kick and I trimmed all the hair on my chest and stomach, and it makes everything stand out a little bit more. So if you have five extra pounds, you notice it more. I’m being really psycho-militant with this diet right now, why don’t I shave the mustache and I’ll be able to see what I’m hiding. You know, what nuts I’m storing for the winter. It exposed everything a little more, so that’s why I did it. It will definitely stay this way. I’m going to be doing WWHL soon, so I’m definitely going to be up in the clubhouse with no mustache.

Will we see the journey of your weight loss on the show this season?

Not at all whatsoever. It’s so weird, because we shot and we wrapped shortly before Christmas. Right when we stopped shooting, I was going through a box of old photos and I came across these pictures of me when I was at my prime in my 20s, and I was running marathons. I looked so good, I had a six-pack, and I almost started to cry. I didn’t appreciate it when it was happening. Then I started thinking, ok I have a little window of opportunity before I’m too old to have that body again, to get it back. So the day after Christmas, I started a really crazy, super-strict diet and exercise program and I’ve been on it ever since, and I’ve lost 40 pounds.

Are you doing a special program or just working with a trainer and eating right?

It’s working out with a trainer and eating right. But more importantly, I’m an extremist. When I put my mind to something, I want it yesterday. So if I could just get on the treadmill and go for four hours so I can lose all the weight in one day, I would. So I was overdoing it. I really fine-tuned where my heart rate needed to be, how many calories I needed to take in. I had to learn to do cardio in a zone where I was burning fat, but I wasn’t overdoing it. Because I realized, by the time I met with [the trainer], that I was actually overdoing it. She needed to slow it down and get to a target heart rate that was actually lower than what I was actually doing.

Bravo

That was a crazy emotional reunion at the end of last season, how did you decompress after that?

It was really hard. I’m one of those people where, injustice rubs me the wrong way. It doesn’t sit well with me if someone is getting away with a con. And I had been going on for so long trying to say, “Listen. This never happened. She made this up. There’s no truth to it.” It really ate away at me. So by the time we got to the reunion and she did admit that she did not have a tape of me, I was not having sex with someone else, that she made it up to hurt me, by the time that happened, it was too late. I was defeated already. I really just needed to take some time and find a compartment to put her in so I could continue with my life and not feel like I needed to fight this cause, that I have friends making up rumors about me. It became a job. So I really had to reevaluate my situation with her. And ultimately I came to the place, which you’ll see in episode one, that I can’t fuck with her. I need to put her in a compartment and not have her in my presence or in my space. It took me a while to realize, you know what, I can’t. So that was the best way to deal with her. Because you’re right, the reunion was so hard for me and so emotional. I had so much pent up by the time we got there, that I was a hot mess.

Did you have to psych yourself up to start this season? How did you get yourself in the right mindset, or were you dreading it?

It’s so weird when people ask me a question like that, only because I don’t know what other reality shows are like, but I can only speak to my situation. I talk to MJ and Asa and Mike every single day. We eat lunch together. There’s no getting started, it’s happening on a regular basis. So minus GG, there was no getting started. It was just a reintroduction of, there’s cameras around. But for me, it is what it is. These people are really a part of my every day.

Obviously you and GG will have to be in the same room at some point: how far into this season does it happen and how does it go?

I don’t want to give it away. It’s not very deep into the season. This slick-ass bitch used something. She found my kryptonite. She wiggled her way back in, a very slick, Persian maneuver type of situation.

Bravo

What did you buy for Asa’s new baby?

Adam bought it and sent it to her. I think it was some sort of pillow that mommies use when they’re breastfeeding or something. I’m not 100% sure, but Adam was in charge of it.

How real does the pressure get for you to have a baby with Adam this season?

It gets really intense this season. I don’t know if it’s a Gemini thing, or a white thing or an Adam thing, but he becomes like a broken record.  All of a sudden, everything can be traced back to a baby. Like, we’ll be at the gym. After the gym we’ll get a protein shake. Protein shakes have milk in them. “Oh my god, honey, how great is it going to be when we have a baby and the baby can drink milk”? Bitch, we just had a workout. We’re drinking a fucking protein shake. How does this relate to a baby? Stop working a baby into every single scenario of my existence.

Does it put the same amount of pressure on MJ?

MJ puts the pressure on herself. So luckily MJ wasn’t pressuring me. But I had it coming from family members. I had it coming from Adam. And then when someone in your inner circle has a baby, and Adam and I — it’s not like I’m getting any younger — people are like, “So when are y’all going to have a baby?” And I’m thinking, “So when are you going to mind your own business?”

It’s fun to see you and Adam playing tennis in tonight’s episode. Will we get to see more of your marriage?

I can’t even address your question. I have to make a comment. I literally was mortified at how rotund I was [at the tennis court]. It looked like I had swallowed Sammy from season one. Like, I ate him before we started the tennis match. How on earth did I get that big? No one had an intervention and sat me down and said, “You’re eating everything that’s not nailed down. We need to do something about it.” But hey, a bitch was fat but a bitch can still move around, that’s the one good thing.

But you will see a lot of Adam and our marriage, and working through the first year and the ups and downs. You will be getting a front row seat.

We also see that you did a nice job decorating Mike’s house, you should pat yourself on the back for that.

Thank you very much. I actually sold Mike a house, so he’s no longer living in that house that you saw but I literally am designing his house from top to bottom. I took the house down to the studs and hopefully you’ll get to see it if there’s another season.

After six seasons of this show, was there anything that was a new experience for you this season?

Very much so. There’s a trip that comes up. We end up going to Israel, which is a place that I’ve been wanting to go to for many years. My dad’s side of the family is Jewish, and there’s this crazy thing that happens. My grandfather died when I was a kid, I don’t remember him. I met him when I was a baby. And I’ve always wondered about this man whose last name I have, and he was Jewish. I had a very profound experience when we were at the Western Wall in Israel that was unbelievable and really special. I wondered a lot of things, and I had the opportunity to have a reading by Tyler, the Hollywood medium. And he had no idea what I wanted to know, and the only thing I really wanted to know was if my grandfather has an awareness of who I am and what I’ve been doing since he’s passed and if he’s proud of me and happy for me, the fact that I’d gotten married and what my accomplishments are in life. And homeboy knew that. He literally said, “Your grandfather is really proud of you and he loves you.” I lost my life. It was crazy.
