‘The Deer Hunter’

You ever hear someone say “they don’t make ’em like they used to”? If you watch (or re-watch) The Deer Hunter in 2017, this will be the first thought that goes through your mind. Director Michael Cimino’s three-plus hour Vietnam-era epic won 5 Academy Awards, including Best Picture, when it was initially released back in 1978, and the film’s reputation has only grown over the last 40 years. Be warned, it’s a difficult watch, but the gut-wrenching performances of Robert De Niro, Meryl Streep and Christopher Walken make it more than worth your while.
